Musk Reiterates Bitcoin's Energy-Based Value and Confirms DOGE Initiative Continues
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has reiterated his stance on Bitcoin's value, stating that it is derived from energy consumption rather than government backing. In an interview with Indian entrepreneur Nikhil Kamath, Musk emphasized that 'energy is the true currency,' and that governments cannot 'fake' Bitcoin like they can with fiat currencies.
Musk pointed out that Bitcoin mining requires substantial electricity to power computers that solve cryptographic puzzles, securing the network and introducing new coins into circulation. He noted that energy cannot be manufactured through legislation, making it difficult to generate or harness in a useful way.
The comments echo Musk's previous statements on the matter, made in October when he said governments cannot 'fake' Bitcoin like they can with fiat currencies. Musk also addressed his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) initiative, which has faced speculation about its status. He confirmed that DOGE is still ongoing and dismissed reports of its closure.
