Mysten Labs' Blackshear Exits for Anthropic Amid Growing AI Security Concerns

Mysten Labs' Co-Founder and CTO Sam Blackshear has left the company to join AI firm Anthropic, where he will focus on defensive security research. This move is significant as it highlights the growing importance of AI in the cryptocurrency world, particularly in cybersecurity.

Blackshear will remain an advisor to Mysten Labs and continue supporting the Sui ecosystem and the upcoming Move Foundation. He expressed his excitement about taking on a new challenge that brings him enjoyment, solving difficult tech questions in new technology spaces.

In this role, he will tackle defensive security research, which has become increasingly important as attackers use AI-powered tools to launch more sophisticated attacks. Blackshear noted that attackers are getting more advanced and thus more sophisticated defense research is a growing necessity.

Meanwhile, Mysten Labs' CEO Evan Cheng will take over the company's technical vision while Sui development continues under existing leadership. The Move language creator remains involved in the project, and the planned Move Foundation will offer support for the future governance and adoption of the language.
