Mysten Labs CTO Sam Blackshear Departs for Anthropic Security Role
Sam Blackshear, co-founder and former CTO of Mysten Labs, has announced his departure from the company to join Anthropic. In a post on X, he stated that this move will allow him to return to hands-on technical work while exploring a new problem area in defensive security research.
Mysten Labs is responsible for developing Sui, a Layer 1 blockchain that launched its mainnet in 2023 and has since grown into one of the more actively used networks. As CTO, Blackshear was closely involved in decisions around Sui's core protocol upgrades, developer tooling, and technical roadmap.
The exit marks a significant departure from one of the most prominent technical leadership roles in the Layer 1 blockchain space. Mysten Labs has not yet named a replacement CTO or commented publicly on the transition, leaving questions about who will take over Blackshear's responsibilities and how this may impact Sui's development roadmap.
