Nailwal Launches Crypto Campaign for Nepal Disaster Relief
Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal has launched a cryptocurrency donation campaign to support Nepal's government relief fund following a devastating glacier-related disaster.
The disaster, which began on August 26, caused widespread destruction and resulted in over 1,250 reported deaths and thousands of missing people. The United Nations estimates that about 84,270 people have been affected and has launched a $49.6 million humanitarian appeal.
Nailwal announced the campaign on September 4, allowing global donors to contribute stablecoins to Nepal's relief efforts using an on-chain route.
The campaign had raised $168,741 at the time of writing, with various organizations pledging support, including Blockchain For Impact ($100,000) and Ripple ($300,000).
