Nailwal Launches Crypto Campaign to Aid Nepal Disaster Relief

Polygon Co-founder Sandeep Nailwal has launched a crypto donation campaign to support Nepal's government relief fund after a devastating glacier-related disaster. The disaster, which began on August 26, caused over 1,250 deaths and thousands of people are still missing.

Nailwal announced the campaign on September 4, giving global donors an on-chain route to contribute stablecoins to Nepal's relief efforts. He said that stablecoins can help move emergency aid quickly when traditional payment channels face delays. Donors can contribute crypto from multiple blockchains, while Open Money Stack will handle bridging, routing and conversion.

The campaign has raised $168,741 at the time of writing, according to Nepalrelief.org. BlockChain for Impact pledged $100,000 to the campaign, while Ripple also committed $300,000 toward relief efforts.
