Nailwal Launches Crypto Relief Drive for Flood-Hit Nepal
Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal has launched a cryptocurrency donation campaign to support Nepal's official disaster fund after severe flooding caused by a glacier collapse in the Himalayan region. At least 750 people have died and over 3,000 are missing across Nepal and China's Tibet region.
The campaign accepts cryptocurrency donations before converting them into Nepalese rupees for the government relief fund. Polygon's Open Money Stack provides the routing infrastructure, while Coinme and Cross River Bank support the payment pathway. Blockchain for Impact has pledged $100,000 to the campaign.
The donation process involves collecting cryptocurrency, converting it into USDC, and then transferring the funds to Nepal's official disaster fund through Engage Nepal, a U.S.-based nonprofit organization led by former U.S. Ambassador to Nepal Scott DeLisi.
