Nakamoto Sells 600 BTC Amidst Liquidity Crisis Ahead of December Deadline
Nakamoto, the parent company of Bitcoin Magazine, is facing a liquidity test ahead of its year-end deadline. The company has $60 million in USDT due on December 4 and holds $19.1 million in cash as of June 30. To address this situation, Nakamoto sold about 600 BTC for 35.6 million USDT in June, raising around $48 million in net proceeds.
However, the sale of these assets was tied to a credit line with Kraken, which reduced the company's free digital reserves to approximately $38.7 million. The remaining BTC pledged as collateral totals about $222.7 million. Nakamoto directed 45 million USDT from the sale towards reducing the balance of this credit line, decreasing it from 210 million USDT to 165 million USDT.
Furthermore, the company extended $105 million of the principal to June 2027. This means that while there is not necessarily an immediate funding shortfall, Nakamoto remains dependent on cash, unencumbered assets, and the Bitcoin posted as collateral to meet its December payment obligations.
