Narrowing Trading Range Sets Stage for Volatility Burst in Bitcoin
Bitcoin's trading range has been narrowing since mid-July, and analysts warn that this could be a sign of impending volatility. The cryptocurrency is currently trading at around $63,500 after a slight correction last week, but despite improving risk sentiment and institutional demand, the market remains cautious.
The SoSoValue data shows that spot BTC ETFs recorded an outflow of $389.71 million last week, indicating a potential for further correction if this trend continues. Meanwhile, trading volumes have fallen sharply from their post-inauguration and October flash-crash peaks, according to the 10x Research report.
The report highlights that options flows point to shifting market conviction, with implied volatility falling to historically subdued levels despite tepid spot ETF inflows and continued stablecoin outflows. This suggests that Bitcoin is approaching a volatility expansion, which could lead to a sustained move in either direction.
