Nasdaq Goes 24/7 with 23-Hour Trading Model Expansion
Nasdaq has made significant strides in adopting a more crypto-like trading model by extending its hours to 23 hours per day, from April 10, 2026. The new 'Night Session' will run from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Eastern Time, with a technical pause between 8 and 9 p.m. to process transactions.
This move aims to bridge the gap between traditional stock exchanges and cryptocurrency markets, which operate continuously around the clock. The SEC-approved amendment enables Nasdaq to offer extended trading hours, responding to growing investor demand for access to markets outside conventional hours.
The new system will feature 20% price protection bands during overnight hours to mitigate volatility in periods of lower liquidity. This mechanism is analogous to the Limit Up-Limit Down system that governs regular sessions but without automatic halts.
