Nasdaq Narrowing Crypto's Advantage with Overnight Trading Plan
Nasdaq has announced plans to launch an overnight trading session on December 6, 2026. This move will extend trading in its U.S. equities market to 23 hours a day, five days a week.
The new session will run from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. ET, alongside Nasdaq's existing 4 a.m. to 8 p.m. trading session. This addition is aimed at providing near-continuous access to U.S. equities and meeting the growing demand from investors outside U.S. time zones.
The move could narrow one of crypto's longstanding advantages: the ability to trade continuously around the clock. However, Nasdaq will remain closed on weekends, meaning crypto will still retain a significant advantage when Saturday and Sunday news hits.
