Nasdaq Prepares for 23-Hour Trading with Crypto-Inspired Schedule
Nasdaq, one of the world's leading stock exchanges, is planning to extend its trading hours. The exchange will operate for 23 hours a day, five days a week, with an overnight session from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. ET starting in December 2026, pending regulatory approval and technical readiness.
This move has been seen as a sign that traditional markets are adopting ideas from the crypto space. BitGo CEO Mike Belshe pointed out that longer stock-market hours, perpetual futures, stablecoins, and tokenized loans are all examples of crypto innovations finding applications in traditional finance.
The new schedule will not make stock markets 24/7, but it brings them closer to the always-on model used by many crypto exchanges. The one-hour daily pause for processing and transition to the next trading day remains intact.
