Nasdaq Proposes Simplified Crypto ETF Options Listings Amid Regulatory Limbo
Nasdaq is seeking to simplify the process of listing options on crypto-backed exchange-traded funds (ETFs), despite the CLARITY Act being stalled in Congress. The company has filed a proposal with the SEC to create standardized requirements for listing ETFs that hold 'digital commodities', such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana.
This move would eliminate the need for separate approval each time a crypto-backed ETF wants to list options, making it easier for investors to trade these funds. The plan comes at a time when the industry is in limbo, with the CLARITY Act delayed until September and the SEC's 'Regulation Crypto' agenda still on the table.
Meanwhile, institutional interest in Bitcoin remains strong. BlackRock's Robert Mitchnick recently stated that BTC's decoupling from equities is a healthy development, as it can serve as a portfolio diversifier and potential hedge. This view is supported by ETF flows, which show that BlackRock's Bitcoin ETF saw significant buying from clients over the past 24 hours.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding regulation, major financial institutions like BlackRock continue to back BTC as an asset worth holding.
