Nation-State Attack Feared as Major Chatbots Fall Silent
A major AI outage on Thursday morning affected several prominent chatbots, including ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok. According to Downdetector, reports of ChatGPT issues jumped from 5,000 to over 22,000 in just 10 minutes.
Charles Hoskinson, founder of Cardano, suggested that the outage may have been caused by a nation-state attack, given the simultaneous failure of multiple AI systems relying on Nvidia chips. He noted that Google doesn't use Nvidia chips, which might explain why it was not affected.
The incident has sparked debate about the need for decentralized AI systems, with some arguing that such an outage could be catastrophic in a world where AI is increasingly integrated into critical infrastructure.
