Naver Plans Record-Breaking Buyback Amid Crypto-Focused Pivot
Naver Corp., a South Korean tech giant, is embarking on an ambitious buyback program to acquire approximately 1 trillion won (around $745 million) in treasury stock. This move sends a clear signal about management's confidence in the company's valuation.
The buyback is significant, as it more than doubles Naver's 2024 plan to repurchase shares worth 400 billion won (roughly $306 million). In fact, this isn't Naver's first foray into share repurchases; the company executed a similar program in 2023, buying back 1.64 million shares valued at around 305.3 billion won.
Naver's CEO has also shown personal commitment to the company's strategy by purchasing 700 million won worth of shares with their own money. This type of insider buying tends to grab investors' attention and can boost market confidence in a company.
