NC Bill Passes to Shield Consumers from Bitcoin ATM Scams
A new North Carolina House bill has been passed to protect consumers from cryptocurrency kiosks, also known as Bitcoin ATMs. The legislation addresses a growing form of financial exploitation in which criminals direct victims to these machines after contacting them about fake emergencies or investment opportunities.
Many older adults have lost their life savings through these scams, and recovering the money is extremely difficult due to the anonymity of cryptocurrency transactions.
AARP volunteer Margie Sigman expressed her gratitude towards state legislators who supported and voted for this bill, which aims to prevent such fraudulent activities in the region.
