NEAR Proposes Sovereign Fund to Manage Assets and Tame Inflation
NEAR Protocol's co-founder Illia Polosukhin has proposed creating a sovereign fund to manage protocol assets and curb inflation. The NEAR Sovereign Fund would hold and manage NEAR tokens, generating returns that could be invested in network security and public goods. This approach aims to reduce token inflation, a common issue for proof-of-stake networks.
The proposal outlines a framework where the fund would oversee protocol-generated income, such as transaction fees and staking rewards. By using the returns generated from investments to cover network expenses, NEAR could reduce its reliance on new token issuance, thereby lowering inflation.
Polosukhin's proposal comes at a time when many layer-1 blockchains are grappling with how to balance tokenomics with long-term sustainability. The success of the fund would depend heavily on governance, transparency, and the ability to generate consistent returns in a volatile market.
