Neo N3 Gets Chain-Agnostic Identity Through CAIP-2 Registration
Neo N3 has been registered with a canonical chain-agnostic identity in the Chain Agnostic namespace registry, thanks to Neo co-founder Erik Zhang's efforts. This registration supplies a naming-layer prerequisite for integration with CAIP-2-based systems such as the x402 payment protocol.
The registration is based on CAIP-2, which defines a format of namespace:reference for identifying any blockchain. The namespace identifies the blockchain family or protocol, while the reference identifies the specific network within that family.
Ethereum Mainnet, for example, uses the eip155 namespace and has a chain ID of 1. Neo N3, which runs its own distinct protocol stack, requires its own namespace.
The registration establishes the identifier layer, enabling multi-chain wallets and SDKs to reference Neo N3 using a standardized string instead of custom naming conventions.
