Netflix Director Sentenced for Embezzlement of $11 Million in Crypto Trades
A Los Angeles director, Carl Erik Rinsch, was sentenced to 30 months in prison for embezzling $11 million from Netflix intended for his science fiction series 'White Horse'. The funds were instead used for speculative trades, cryptocurrency transactions, and personal purchases. According to the prosecution, this was not a failed producer's story but a targeted scheme.
Rinsch received the money in 2018 under the pretense of finishing the already filmed episodes of 'White Horse' and completing production. However, he used it for options trading, which resulted in significant losses, and then invested in cryptocurrency without disclosing his actions to Netflix.
The investigation found that Rinsch spent at least $1.7 million on credit card payments, $3.3 million on furniture and antiques, $387,000 on Swiss watches, and $2.4 million on luxury cars, including five Rolls-Royce vehicles and a red Ferrari.
The case highlights the risks of investing in cryptocurrency and the importance of transparency in financial dealings.
