Neuner Flags Regulation as Hyperliquid's Main Risk Ahead
Ran Neuner, founder of Crypto Banter, believes that regulation poses the biggest risk for Hyperliquid, a layer-1 network behind one of the largest decentralized perpetual futures venues.
Citing DeFiLlama data, Neuner noted that Hyperliquid has led perpetual DEXs by trading volume over the past 30 days, with roughly $223 billion in that period. However, he warned that high activity may not shield decentralized venues from regulatory scrutiny if governments decide to apply similar compliance expectations.
Neuner pointed out that decentralized exchanges operate without centralized intermediaries, which regulators have started to license and supervise. He suggested that this difference could determine how the next wave of regulation is shaped, stating 'The biggest issue is that we don't know how regulators are going to treat the decentralized exchanges.'
While Neuner highlighted regulation as a key vulnerability for Hyperliquid, he remained optimistic about its competitive durability due to network effects. He compared the dynamic to consumer platforms, where users tend to migrate toward the 'busiest or the best node,' reinforcing the leader's position.
