Neutrl Halts NUSD Redemptions Amid Reserve Uncertainty
Neutrl, a decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol, has paused minting and redemptions for its NUSD synthetic dollar due to an undisclosed issue affecting its reserves. The protocol did not specify whether there was a realized loss or provide a timeline for resuming operations.
The suspension prevents approved counterparties from exchanging the token for its backing assets while Neutrl determines the impact on its reserves. With $53.6 million in NUSD in circulation, the pause may cause concern among investors who hold the synthetic dollar.
Neutrl has also paused other protocol functions on legal advice while it assesses the situation. Structured-yield protocol Strata later followed suit by pausing minting and redemptions for contracts related to NUSD-linked products in its Neutrl market, though other markets remained operational.
