New Crypto Index Excludes Bitcoin, Highlights Revenue-Generating Tokens
A new benchmark index for digital assets has been launched by S&P Dow Jones Indices and Pantera Capital, excluding Bitcoin from its constituents.
The S&P Pantera Digital Asset Index focuses on tokens with real-world use and revenue-generating blockchains, featuring 18 digital assets in total.
Ether, BNB, Solana, Tron, and Hyperliquid are among the top five constituents of the index, which aims to highlight underrepresented assets in traditional crypto strategies.
The index provider behind the S&P 500 has emphasized that Bitcoin does not qualify for inclusion due to its compensation system for miners, rather than generating revenue from activity on the blockchain.
