New Crypto Tokens Struggle to Sustain Value: Just 7% Beat Launch Price
The cryptocurrency market has been plagued by a high failure rate for new tokens. According to a recent study by CryptoRank, only 8 out of 113 major tokens launched since their token generation event (TGE) are currently trading above their launch price.
This represents a median return of -95.7%, with the remaining 105 tokens in the red. The sample is limited to projects with a market capitalization above $100 million as of July 21, 2026.
The eight exceptions to this rule are led by Hyperliquid's HYPE, which was up 1,519% from its launch price at the time of the survey's publication on July 21st. Ondo Finance's ONDO followed at 101.4%, with EverValue Coin (EVA) and Midnight Network ($NIGHT) up a more modest 20.3% and 16.5% respectively.
CryptoRank attributes the decline of these projects to sell-offs, thin liquidity, and regulatory uncertainty. The study also highlights the difficulty for newly launched tokens to sustain their value in the long term.
