New Listings on CEXs Rarely Survive First Year: CoinGecko Report
A new report from CoinGecko reveals that only about 10% of tokens listed on major centralized exchanges (CEXs) survive their first year, with most losing value within a short period. The research firm analyzed listing performance across the top 12 CEXs and found that nearly 90% of tokens fall below their debut price within 12 months.
The report highlights a concerning trend in the cryptocurrency market, where new listings are often met with a rapid decline in value. After 30 days, only about 32% of newly listed tokens recorded positive price action, while after 60 days, just 25% remained above water.
However, some exchanges fared better than others. Upbit posted the strongest short-term results, with 67% of its new listings finishing in the green after 30 days. Binance and OKX followed at 50%. But even Upbit's early advantage fades sharply, all of its newly listed tokens dropped below their debut price by the 300-day mark.
Stablecoins continue to dominate spot trading, with Tether (USDT) and USD Coin (USDC) accounting for 66.6% of all trading pairs and 97.7% of stablecoin-denominated pairs across the 12 exchanges surveyed.
