New York Court Allows Coinbase Investor Class Action Lawsuit to Proceed

Share

A federal court in New York has allowed a portion of an investor class action lawsuit against Coinbase (COIN) to proceed, rejecting the company's bid to dismiss claims that it concealed potential bankruptcy risks and the possibility of a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) investigation.

The ruling does not determine whether Coinbase actually committed wrongdoing but permits the plaintiffs to proceed with their allegations that the company misled investors by downplaying these risks.

The class action was originally filed in August 2022, during a period of significant volatility in the cryptocurrency market. Investors accused Coinbase of failing to disclose that customer assets could be at risk in the event of a bankruptcy and downplaying regulatory and litigation risks posed by the SEC.
