New Zealand Dollar Holds Steady Near Multi-Month Highs Despite Weak Retail Sales
The New Zealand Dollar (NZD) has remained steady near its multi-month highs against the US Dollar (USD), shrugging off weak second-quarter retail sales figures. The NZD/USD exchange rate is currently trading at 0.5957, just below the 20-period Simple Moving Average (SMA) at 0.5960 and a cluster of nearby horizontal barriers.
The release of soft retail sales data over the weekend, which fell 0.5% on the quarter, had little impact on the Kiwi's value. The market has shown that it prioritizes the rate story driving the currency, as the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) raised the Official Cash Rate (OCR) to 2.50% in July.
The technical analysis suggests that the NZD/USD pair remains above the 100-period SMA at 0.5894, indicating a broader recovery phase is still intact. However, immediate resistance is clustered around the 0.5957 pivot and the 20-period SMA at 0.5960.
