NFL Seeks Stricter Rules on Sports Prediction Markets to Preserve Game Integrity
The NFL has called on the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to strengthen proposed rules governing sports prediction markets. The league submitted its recommendations during the public comment period for the CFTC's proposed rules, which would establish a federal review process for event contracts connected to specific activities.
The NFL stated that preserving game integrity remains its highest priority throughout every competition and argued that stronger protections also support fair event contract administration and market stability. It maintained that the current proposal requires additional safeguards before implementation.
The league supported several elements within the draft framework while requesting key revisions, including stricter limits for contracts involving outcomes that one participant could influence and clearer standards before approving additional sports-related contracts.
