NFT Market Surges Past $2 Billion Led by Blue-Chip Collections
The NFT market has reached a significant milestone, surpassing $2 billion in value for the first time since early Q1. This marks a 54% increase over the past month, despite a decline in participation. The rally is largely driven by blue-chip collections such as Bored Ape Yacht Club and Pudgy Penguins.
Bored Ape Yacht Club floors have seen an impressive 81% gain over the past 30 days, while Pudgy Penguins has pushed above 5 Ethereum (ETH) and gained over 20% on the week. However, CryptoSlam figures reveal that global NFT sales fell to $175 million in April from $304 million in February, with active users and total transactions both down by nearly half.
Analysts caution that wash trading still represents about half of total NFT volume, and aggregate trading profits remain negative. Some of the rally can be attributed to broader crypto strength, with ETH and Bitcoin (BTC) each up roughly 18% over the past month.
