NH Lawmaker Demands Ethics Provisions in Crypto Regulation Bill

Share

Ranking Democrat on the New Hampshire House Commerce and Consumer Affairs Committee, Rep. Anita Burroughs, is calling for Sens. Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan to oppose the CLARITY Act unless it is strengthened with real ethics protections.

Burroughs argues that the public loses faith in government when elected officials are allowed to profit from the policies they write, citing President Donald Trump's financial disclosures which reveal substantial income from cryptocurrency ventures tied to his family.

The CLARITY Act aims to create rules for the trillion-dollar industry of cryptocurrency, but Burroughs believes it ignores a major ethical question: should public officials be allowed to make decisions that directly affect industries in which they or their families have major financial interests?
