Nigeria Embracing Crypto as Everyday Savings Account
Nigeria has become one of the fastest-growing markets for Bitget Wallet, a self-custodial crypto wallet that recently crossed 100 million users globally. The shift from trading to payments is evident in Nigeria's user base, with daily payment users outnumbering traders for the first time.
The naira's loss of over 40% against the dollar in 2024 and high remittance fees have driven this change. People are now using Bitget Wallet to receive payments from abroad, hold balances in dollars, and spend them using cards or QR payments.
Bitget Wallet's Onchain Payments Matrix has enabled seamless transactions, with over 80 payment rails, more than 100 currencies, and nearly $177 billion in stablecoins settled. The platform's self-custody model ensures users hold the keys to their assets, reducing the risk of frozen accounts.
