The Nigerian government has introduced new guidelines for taxing virtual assets, which require crypto exchanges to withhold 1% on every taxable disposal and remit a 1.5% stamp duty on the originating token.

The Presidential Executive Order on Virtual Assets Coordination, signed by President Bola Tinubu on July 17, 2026, took immediate effect.

Centralized exchanges and peer-to-peer platforms must withhold 1% on taxable crypto disposals as an advance payment toward the seller's income tax, while a separate 1.5% stamp duty applies to every fiat-to-token and token-to-fiat transfer.
