Nomura-Backed Laser Digital Secures Key Crypto Registration in Japan

Laser Digital Japan has secured registration as a Crypto Asset Exchange Service Provider in Japan. This move marks an institutional chapter for the Nomura-backed firm, which plans to provide liquidity for Japanese virtual asset providers.

Additionally, Laser Digital expects to expand into digital asset trading for institutional investors. Notably, its registration signals demand for professional counterparties and digital asset infrastructure in a market undergoing regulatory changes.

Japan has not granted another crypto industry registration in four years. The approval carries significant weight as Japan's parliament recently approved reforms that will reshape the country's crypto framework. These changes will classify crypto assets as financial products, introduce insider trading rules, and potentially lower taxes on qualifying crypto gains to 20%.
