Nomura Subsidiary Breaks Japan Crypto Registration Drought
Nomura Group's subsidiary, Laser Digital Japan, has broken a four-year drought in new exchange registrations in Japan. The company completed registration as a CAESP with Japan's Financial Services Agency on August 21, 2026, receiving registration number 00032.
The last firm to clear the demanding vetting process was Binance Japan in October 2022. Laser Digital holds over $250 million under management and will initially supply wholesale liquidity to existing CAESP operators, helping them execute large institutional and retail orders without moving the market.
The registration addresses counterparty risk, a primary obstacle for Japanese institutional investors considering crypto allocation. An FSA-registered Nomura subsidiary operates under the same regulatory standards as Japan's securities firms, making it an attractive option for institutional funds.
