Nomura's Laser Digital Ends Four-Year Wait for Japan Crypto Exchange License
Nomura's Laser Digital has cleared Japan's four-year licensing drought for crypto exchanges. The company, which is the local arm of Nomura's digital asset subsidiary, announced on August 21 that it had registered as a crypto asset exchange service provider under the Payment Services Act.
The registration makes Laser Digital the first firm to clear Japan's licensing bar in four years. Institutional investors in the country now have access to a Nomura-supported venue for digital asset trading.
Laser Digital will initially focus on providing liquidity to domestic virtual asset service providers, with trading access for institutional investors to come later. The company operates under Registration No. 00032 and is listed with the Director-General of the Kanto Local Finance Bureau.
