Nomura's Laser Digital Joins Forces with UAE-Based Blockchain ZIGChain
Nomura's digital asset subsidiary Laser Digital has partnered with ZIGChain, a Layer 1 blockchain focused on regulated real-world asset tokenization in the UAE. The partnership aims to create infrastructure for tokenized private credit, specifically targeting SME lending in the Gulf Cooperation Council region.
ZIGChain's ecosystem fund has reportedly crossed $100M, and the company has been building its GCC footprint through partnerships with licensed entities like Beehive and ABHI. Laser Digital CEO Dr. Jez Mohideen emphasized the strategic rationale behind the partnership, highlighting the need to bridge conventional finance with blockchain in an environment where regulatory frameworks already exist.
The UAE has aggressively positioned itself as a jurisdiction for tokenized finance, with Abu Dhabi Global Market and the Dubai International Financial Centre rolling out frameworks for digital securities and RWA issuance. Nomura's involvement is significant due to its reputation as a multi-decade-old Japanese financial institution with a substantial balance sheet.
