Nomura's Laser Digital Secures Japan Crypto Exchange License

Share

Nomura's Laser Digital has obtained a Japanese crypto exchange license under the Payment Services Act.

This is the first new registration in Japan's digital asset sector since 2022, according to Ledger Insights.

Laser Digital Japan will initially focus on providing institutional liquidity solutions for domestic virtual asset service providers (VASP), with plans to expand to offer institutional trading services later.

The company has been expanding its business lines since its launch in 2022, including trading, asset management, and venture investment. In January, Laser Digital applied to the US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency for a national trust bank charter, receiving preliminary conditional approval in May.
