NSA Ditches Opposition to CLARITY Act Ahead of Senate Vote
The National Sheriffs' Association (NSA) has changed its stance on the CLARITY Act, dropping its opposition to the landmark U.S. cryptocurrency market-structure bill.
This decision removes one of the law-enforcement objections that had complicated the bill's path through the Senate, where a vote is expected later this month.
The NSA had previously expressed concerns that the proposal could make it harder for law enforcement to prosecute illicit finance, but in a letter to lawmakers, the group said it is changing its position to neutral.
The shift clears one obstacle but leaves larger disputes unresolved, most notably how to restrict the president's ability to profit from digital assets, a provision that remains uncleared for now.
