NSA Drops Opposition to CLARITY Act Ahead of Senate Vote
The National Sheriffs' Association (NSA) has dropped its opposition to the CLARITY Act, paving the way for Senate approval of the cryptocurrency bill.
In a signed letter to Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, NSA President Sheriff Troy Wellman and Executive Director Justin Smith explained that they would no longer oppose the act due to 'the complexity of the legislation and the number of important details that remain under consideration.' The NSA will now maintain a neutral stance on the issue.
The CLARITY Act aims to regulate cryptocurrency transactions, with Section 604 being a key point of contention. This section protects software developers from being treated as if they control user funds just for writing code. Supporters argue this protection is necessary to prevent developers from leaving the country due to unclear laws.
