NSA Reverses Stance on CLARITY Act, Clearing Path for Senate Vote
The National Sheriffs' Association (NSA) has reversed its stance on the Cryptocurrency Lawful Access and Reporting Transparency for Illicit Transactions (CLARITY) Act, signaling momentum ahead of a Senate vote later this month.
The NSA had been pushing back against the bill, citing concerns that it could make it harder for law enforcement to prosecute illicit finance. However, after spending months opposing the legislation, the group has decided to step back and allow the legislative process to proceed.
In a letter to lawmakers, the NSA will write: 'Given the complexity of the legislation and the number of important details that remain under consideration, the NSA is changing its position on the CLARITY Act to neutral.' This shift in position is seen as a significant development for the bill's prospects in the Senate.
