NSA Shifts Stance on CLARITY Act Ahead of Senate Vote

The National Sheriffs' Association (NSA) has changed its stance on the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act, shifting from opposition to neutrality ahead of a Senate vote expected later this month.

This shift comes after 'significant work undertaken by Congress, the Administration, and stakeholders,' said the NSA in a letter to Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

The NSA had previously criticized provisions that would exempt crypto mixers from certain registration obligations, arguing this could hinder tracing and victim recovery.

Despite its earlier objections, the NSA now believes the bill should be allowed to move forward through the legislative process to create 'a clear, effective, and much-needed regulatory framework,' it said in the letter.
