NSA Shifts Stance on CLARITY Act, Clearing Path for Crypto Regulation

The National Sheriffs' Association (NSA) has removed its opposition to the CLARITY Act, shifting from open criticism to a neutral stance. The group had previously expressed concerns that certain DeFi setups, mixers, and non-custodial tools might slip past anti-money-laundering rules.

In a letter to Senate leaders John Thune and Chuck Schumer, NSA President Sheriff Troy Wellman and Executive Director Justin Smith stated that the association is changing its position on the CLARITY Act to neutral due to the complexity of the legislation and the number of important details that remain under consideration.

This shift has removed a loud law-enforcement voice that previously leaned hard against the bill. Arkansas Rep. French Hill, who had urged the Senate to collaborate and pass the CLARITY Act, sees this as an opportunity for the Senate to join and finish the job.
