Nu Expands Beyond Latin America with US Banking Suite and Stablecoin Backed Accounts
Nu, the parent company of Latin America's largest digital bank Nubank, has expanded into the United States. The move marks Nu's first foray beyond its home region and comes with a suite of banking products that pair traditional banking with on-chain exposure to stablecoins.
The new US banking suite includes the Nu Account, which offers 3.50% APY on every dollar deposited, as well as a metal debit card and a credit card issued through Mastercard with no annual fee and unlimited 1.5% cashback.
Nu Global is a multi-currency account that converts deposits into USDC or EURC stablecoins, allowing customers to send and receive money across more than 35 countries. The account also lets users hold and trade a curated set of digital assets, including Bitcoin and Ethereum, directly in the app.
Nu has applied for a national bank charter with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and received conditional approval in January 2026. For now, the company is running through a partner-bank model to start serving customers while it works toward a full charter.
