Nubank Leaps into Competitive US Market with Lead Bank Partnership
Nubank, a Brazilian fintech giant with over 140 million clients across Latin America, has launched US banking operations through a partnership with FDIC-insured Lead Bank. By using an established bank's infrastructure, Nubank sidesteps years of regulatory waiting and receives conditional approval for a national bank charter in 2027.
The centerpiece of Nubank's offerings is a high-yield savings account paying 3.50% APY, paired with a no-annual-fee Mastercard credit card offering 1.5% cashback, which can reach 2% under certain conditions.
Nubank's product that could have the greatest impact is fee-free remittances, initially covering corridors to Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia. The company also offers a multi-currency high-yield savings product, Nu Global account, supporting transfers across more than 35 countries and allowing users to trade select cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum.
