Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has sounded off against what he sees as irrational fears about artificial intelligence, warning that policymakers in Washington are letting 'Hollywood scripts' drive their decisions.

In a public lobbying session on July 23, Huang urged policymakers to base AI policy on science, not science fiction. He bluntly dismissed doomsday predictions about the technology's impact on humanity as 'complete nonsense.'

Huang cautioned that an overcorrection in AI policy could backfire, creating a regulatory environment where competitors could exploit safety rhetoric to gain advantages.

The Nvidia CEO also highlighted the need for federally unified AI regulations, rather than a patchwork of state-level rules. He pointed out that a coherent federal framework would provide companies with a single set of rules to follow.
