Nvidia Eyes $1B Stake in Energy Firm as AI Demand Booms

Nvidia is reportedly in advanced talks to invest $1 billion in Lancium, a Texas-based energy infrastructure developer. This move would give Nvidia approximately a 30% stake in the company and mark one of its most significant bets outside of its core semiconductor business.

Lancium's origin story reads like a corporate pivot case study. Founded in 2017, the company initially built its business around Bitcoin mining powered by renewable energy but shifted its focus to developing grid-connected 'Clean Campuses' purpose-built for AI infrastructure after the explosion of AI workloads created an opportunity too large to pass up.

The company has already attracted heavyweight backing, with Blackstone investing over $500 million in Lancium in November 2024. Negotiations around the Nvidia deal could value Lancium somewhere between $7 billion and $10 billion, with some estimates stretching as high as $14 billion.
