NYSE Builds Blockchain Platform for Tokenized Securities
The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) is developing a blockchain-based platform for trading and settling tokenized securities. The platform, built under parent company Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), combines NYSE's existing Pillar matching engine with blockchain systems handling post-trade operations.
This will enable 24/7 trading, instant on-chain settlement, dollar-denominated orders, stablecoin funding, and multi-chain support. One of the key features is atomic settlement, where the trade and transfer of ownership happen simultaneously, unlike traditional stock trades in the US which settle on a T+1 basis.
The platform's timeline depends on regulatory approvals, with NYSE actively seeking them. However, one of the thornier questions involves the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), which currently serves as the central clearinghouse for US equities.
