NYSE Drops Position Limits on 11 Crypto ETF Options
The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) has made significant changes to its rules on crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs). The Securities and Exchange Commission waived the standard 30-day review period, allowing NYSE Arca and NYSE American to lift position limits on options tied to 11 Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs.
The original position limits of 25,000 contracts were introduced in November 2024, but now that they have been removed, these crypto ETF options are treated more consistently with other commodity ETF options. This change gives institutions greater flexibility in sizing and managing positions, which could increase market liquidity by making it easier to enter and exit large trades.
Among the affected products are BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), Fidelity's Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC), and the ARK 21Shares Bitcoin ETF (ARKB). Grayscale's GBTC had already received a position limit exemption in late July. The latest changes extend similar treatment across a broader set of ETF options.
