OCC Approves Trust Charter for Trump-Linked Crypto Company
The U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) has conditionally approved a national trust bank charter for World Liberty Financial, a company linked to the Trump family.
The approval would allow the company to operate as the World Liberty Trust Company, National Association if it meets certain regulatory and policy requirements.
This decision opens a path for World Liberty to pursue stablecoin issuance and digital asset custody within a trust bank framework. The company plans to issue a U.S. dollar-based stablecoin and provide digital asset custody related to its USD1 token.
The approval process has been embroiled in a conflict-of-interest controversy due to the Trump family's involvement with World Liberty. The OCC chief, Jonathan Gould, was nominated by President Donald Trump in 2025, adding to concerns about impartiality.
