World Liberty Financial News (WLFI) has cleared a significant regulatory milestone after receiving conditional approval from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) for a new national trust bank tied to its project.

The OCC's decision letter, dated August 14, 2026, granted preliminary conditional approval to World Liberty Trust Company, National Association, which would be based in Bay Harbor Islands, Florida and operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of WLTC Holdings LLC.

The trust company would issue and redeem the USD1 stablecoin, take over from BitGo, offer digital asset custody services as a fiduciary, and let custody customers convert other approved stablecoins into USD1. This approval is a key step towards giving USD1 a more formal, regulated home under an OCC charter.

The OCC's decision was based on federal law that allows the agency to charter trust-focused national banks since 1978, as well as the GENIUS Act, which recognizes uninsured national banks as eligible stablecoin issuers.
