OCC Approves World Liberty's Stablecoin Charter Amid Conflict Concerns

Share

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) has conditionally approved a national trust bank charter for World Liberty Financial, paving the way for the company to expand its stablecoin services. The OCC's approval clears a path for World Liberty Trust Company to issue its USD1 token directly and hold the dollar reserves backing it under federal oversight.

World Liberty's USD1 stablecoin, launched in March 2025, has reached a market value of $4 billion and generates an estimated $50 million for the Trump family through June 2026. The company plans to use the charter to serve institutional customers such as cryptocurrency exchanges and investment firms.

However, Democratic lawmakers have raised conflict-of-interest concerns due to the ties between World Liberty Financial and the Trump family. OCC Comptroller Jonathan Gould has responded that his agency follows standard, nonpolitical review and supervision procedures.
