The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) has granted preliminary conditional approval to World Liberty Financial's application for a national trust bank charter. This approval will allow WLFI to issue and redeem its USD1 stablecoin, manage its reserves, and provide custody services for institutional customers.

This development follows similar approvals given to other crypto firms like Ripple, Fidelity, Paxos, and Circle. The OCC's conditional approval for WLTC, the national trust bank proposed by WLFI, is a significant step forward in the firm's plans to operate its stablecoin operations under a regulated banking framework.

World Liberty Trust Company President Zach Witkoff commented on the preliminary approval, stating that 'a national trust bank brings USD1 issuance, custody, and reserve management together under OCC supervision.' He emphasized that the strength of the reserve behind a stablecoin is crucial to its trustworthiness, and that a national trust bank provides an additional layer of accountability.
